Frequently asked Questions

We’re glad you asked!

At Exercise Lab, we want YOU to understand YOUR body. After all, it’s yours forever to nurture.

Often we see people who have chronic pain and have had the same recurring injury time after time. Relief might happen for a short time after a session and then you’re back to square one.

An Exercise Physiologist is a specialist who specifically deals with exercise and movement to help prevent and manage injuries and chronic conditions.

Resistance-based exercise forms the foundation of any program and this allows for specific individual progressions determined by a client’s current training status, movement capacity and goals.

How are you different from other health practitioners I’ve seen?

Very common question!

Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists are all part of the allied health space - along with other practitioners such as chiropractors, occupational therapist, dietitians and podiatrists.

Physiotherapists often deal with the acute stage of an injury which can involve diagnosis, manual therapy, reducing and managing inflammation and providing exercises to improve range of motion and begin strengthening exercises. This can last weeks or months, depending on the injury.

An Exercise Physiologist will see a patient who has experienced chronic pain, or requires further strength improvements before returning to an activity. Exercise physiology also focuses on address the underlying cause of the injury (if relevant) and improving movement patterns and strength to prevent the injury from recurring in the future.
